Megan Fleischmann is a light-lyric coloratura soprano at the beginning of an exciting operatic career. In the 2024/2025 season she joins the Lyric Opera of Chicago, covering Sina in Missy Mazzoli’s The Listeners. Megan will also join the supplementary chorus of Fidelio and La Bohéme this season at the Lyric.

In the 2023/2024 season, Megan sang Gretel in Humperdinck’s beloved Hänsel und Gretel with Northwestern Opera Theatre. Later that year, she returned to the Northwestern stage as Despina in a modern production of Così fan tutte, directed by Joachim Schamberger.

In the 2022-2023 season at Northwestern Opera Theatre, Megan appeared as Leona Raines in the Midwest premiere of Christopher Cerrone and Stephanie Fleischmann’s In a Grove. She also made several role debuts as The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, and Morgana in Handel’s Alcina. In the summer of 2023, Megan made her her company debut with Opera Saratoga, singing Phoebe D’Ysquith in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.

In the 2021-2022 season, Megan sang Selena in the Midwest premiere of Jake Heggie’s If I Were You with Northwestern Opera Theatre. Later that season, she joined Chautauqua Opera Company as a Studio Artist. At Chautauqua, Megan had the pleasure of singing The Shepherd in Tosca, and workshopping the role of Rachel in The House on Mango Street, a new opera by Derek Bermel and Sandra Cisneros.

During her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, Megan had the pleasure of singing Adele in Die Fledermaus, Miles in The Turn of the Screw, Phyllis in Iolanthe, and Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd.

Megan was born and raised in Sonoma County, California. A lifelong lover of music, she spent her summers singing with the The San Francisco Opera Guild where she fostered a love for operatic performance. As an avid Gilbert and Sullivan fan, Megan spent her childhood singing in the G&S Scenes Program at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and touring the San Francisco Bay Area with Lamplighters Music Theatre. Megan received both her Bachelor and Master of Music from Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music.

In 2021, Megan joined the Seagle Festival as an Emerging Artist, where she sang in the world premiere of Harmony, an opera by Robert Carl and Russel Banks. In 2019, she made her role debut as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro with The Miami Beach Classical Music Festival.

Megan is the recipient of an Encouragement Award from the Illinois District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (2023). She was awarded 1st place in the NATS Chicago Chapter College Classical Division (2022), and was a finalist and the recipient of the Friends of the Opera Award in the prestigious Vaanderlaan Prize Competition (2021). In 2016 she was a National YoungArts Honorable Mention in Theatre.
